A Fresh, Festive Holiday Appetizer
This charming appetizer combines the classic flavors of Caprese with a festive presentation. Perfect for holiday gatherings, it’s fresh, vibrant, and utterly delightful!
Ingredients:
1 pint cherry tomatoes
1 pound fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini or ciliegine)
Fresh basil leaves
Extra virgin olive oil
Balsamic glaze or balsamic vinegar
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Base:
Arrange the mozzarella balls on a large platter in a tree shape, starting with a wide base and tapering as you go higher.
Use the cherry tomatoes to create the "tree trunk" at the base or scatter them around the tree for color and texture.
2. Add the "Tree Branches":
Tuck fresh basil leaves between the mozzarella balls to resemble tree branches.
Layer basil leaves slightly between rows of mozzarella for dimension and a burst of green.
3. Drizzle with Olive Oil:
Lightly drizzle the entire tree with extra virgin olive oil for a rich, glossy finish.
Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and freshly cracked black pepper to season.
4. Add the Finishing Touches:
Drizzle balsamic glaze over the tree for tangy sweetness or add a splash of balsamic vinegar.
Optional: Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese or chopped nuts like pine nuts for extra flavor and texture.
5. Serve & Enjoy:
Serve the Caprese Christmas Tree with crackers, crostini, or a side of balsamic vinegar for dipping.
This festive appetizer is sure to be a showstopper at your holiday table!
