Ingredients:

4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs (or breasts)

3 tablespoons hoisin sauce

3 tablespoons honey

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon oyster sauce

1 teaspoon sesame oil

1 tablespoon Chinese five-spice powder

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 tablespoon grated ginger

1 tablespoon rice wine (optional)

1 teaspoon red food coloring (optional, for traditional color)

Directions:

In a mixing bowl, combine hoisin sauce, honey, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, Chinese five-spice powder, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice wine (if using), and food coloring (if desired). Whisk until smooth.

Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for best flavor.

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top.

Remove the chicken from the marinade, allowing excess marinade to drip off. Reserve the marinade for basting.

Arrange the chicken on the wire rack. Bake for 25-30 minutes, basting with the reserved marinade every 10 minutes.

Switch to the broiler setting for the last 3-5 minutes of cooking to caramelize the glaze, giving the chicken a sticky, glossy finish.

Remove from the oven, let rest for 5 minutes, and serve with steamed rice or vegetables.
